Let’s talk about how great Spring is. The weather hasn’t turned too hot but the days are getting longer and going outside to stretch your legs sounds so relaxing. It’s the perfect time to clean out the garage, deep clean the drapes, and refresh your carpets and upholstery.
You know your home best and you can determine what you need to do this Spring. With that said, we have spent decades becoming experts on a few things and want to share our knowledge and advice with you.
What to Clean This Spring
There are a few things that often get overlooked or put-off…
Whether your couches and comfy chairs are leather or upholstered, it’s very important to clean them to extend their life. Leather especially will breakdown under oils and spills and quickly show wear. Cleaning and maintaining leather will allow it to last for years and years.
Upholstery cleaning is also very important to your home health. Upholstery fabric acts as a giant air filter — grabbing dust and dirt out of the air and off your clothing and storing it. That’s actually a good thing for air quality — until the fabric has been absorbing dust and spills for several months and can’t take anymore. Then you’re left with a dirty couch and bad air. A spring clean and refresh for the furniture will give you a healthier home!
Tile has become more and more common in homes across America. People are installing tile all around the house, not just in the shower and bathroom. Tile and stone floors have become popular surfaces in entry-ways, foyers, utility rooms, family rooms, kitchens, porches and many other areas, both inside and outside of the home.
Like most surfaces, these areas require continued daily, weekly and monthly maintenance in the form of sweeping, mopping and scrubbing. Occasionally, bacteria and grime break through the grout and it takes a toothbrush, a lot of elbow grease, and some sealant to get it back to clean.
Tile is porous and can be a breeding ground for bacteria and mold but is so often forgotten about. Make a note to deep clean your tile this month!
Many people go years between carpet cleanings. That boggles the mind! Just think about how much dirt and grime is being tracked over you carpets daily. Vacuuming frequently is important — nay, vital — to keeping your carpets fresh and soft but it’s not enough.
About twice a year (or more if you have a lot of foot traffic), carpets should be deep cleaned by a professional. We could probably recommend someone… 🙂
Of course, other features around the house should be checked for Spring Cleaning. It’s the time to break out a ladder and dust the top of the cabinets or light fixtures. It’s time to reorganize the garage. It’s the time to sweep the blinds and clean the drapes.
